Richmond, Virginia is a city that is overflowing with history. Carytown Burgers & Fries is no different! The building that now houses our quaint little “mother-ship” restaurant was built in 1841, making it one of the oldest buildings in Carytown! Long before the boutiques and Mom & Pop shops started sprouting up on the “Mile of Style”, what is now called Cary Street was once a toll road called Westham Plank Road. When you walk into our place to get the best burger in town, you’re walking into what was once the toll taker’s house, about 200 years ago!
Mike Barber spent 13 years in the restaurant business while earning a degree in Business Administration from the University of Colorado Boulder and a specialized hospitality education from the Hotel and Restaurant School at Sierra Nevada College in Lake Tahoe, NV. During this time, he saved money and dreamed of opening his own restaurant.
He finally settled in Richmond in 1997 before realizing his dream when he opened Carytown Burgers and Fries in 1999. It didn’t take long for CB&F to get noticed, winning Citysearch.com‘s “Best Burger” honors that very year! It’s been a blur of smiling faces and full bellies ever since!

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR CARYTOWN LOCATION!
Some GPS services, like the one on Apple’s most recent iOS update, direct you to corner of Cary and Adams Street. This is incorrect! This is a misinterpretation of the “1/2” (one half) in our address and is directing you to “TWO W. Cary”. Try typing “3500 W. Cary St.” into your GPS instead.
Being slightly off of the main drag in an inauspicious 19th century house, we get a lot of confused faces walking in the door. Trust us — you’re in the right place! Feel free to review the menu. Don’t hesitate to ask our friendly staff if you have any questions… We’re here to help! Take however much time you need. We know there is plenty to choose from, but there isn’t a “wrong decision” on the entire menu… Everything on it is the BEST IN TOWN!
Come on in when you’re ready to order! Here’s the process:
- For here, or to go?
- We’ll need your name so we can find you when it’s ready!
- Most burgers come with “The Works”, just let us know if you want to leave something off or add a little something extra!
- We’ll get you your drinks (most are bottomless!)
- We’ll get you all rung up!
- Dine-In orders will seat themselves in either our awesome outdoor patio (we heat it when you need it) or our cozy upstairs dining room
- We’ll bring your order right to your table as soon as it’s ready. Need extra condiments? Tablewares? No problem!Remember, Carytown Burgers and Fries is NOT fast food. Everything is made-to-order, to perfection, just for you! And while our burgers are HUGE, our kitchen is itsy-bitsy! This can result in some extended wait times during peak hours… but don’t despair, the best burgers in town are always worth the wait! Time crunch?
